UNE’s Kenneth McCall elected as chair of the MaineCare DUR Committee
Kenneth McCall, BSPharm, Pharm.D., CGP, associate professor for the Department of Pharmacy Practice, has been elected to serve as chair of the MaineCare Drug Utilization Review (DUR) Committee.
Composed of physicians and pharmacists, the DUR Committee serves in an advisory role to the Office of MaineCare Services. As committee chair, McCall will preside over meetings, work to comprehensively review each new FDA approved drug and perform ongoing safety evaluations of drugs.
In compliance with federal and state requirements, the DUR Committee determines policy, procedures and standards for the implementation of Maine DUR efforts. The committee primarily focuses on the utilization of drugs as well as the education of providers and recipients to maximize the quality of care provided. The DUR Committee also reviews drug utilization reports and is authorized to review all data, including net drug costs, that are necessary to monitor and maintain the Department of Health and Human Services’s Preferred Drug List for the state Medicaid program.
