UNE’s Lara Carlson to work with Stewart-Haas Racing NASCAR team as sport consultant
Lara Carlson, DPE, FACSM, CSCS, associate professor in the University of New England Department of Physical Therapy and the Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences will utilize her expertise as an exercise physiologist, coach and former elite athlete to serve as a consultant for Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR).
SHR, founded by NASCAR Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, is a professional racing team that competes in the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series. The SHR team fields the following drivers: #4 Kevin Harvick, #10 Danica Patrick, #14 Clint Bowyer, and #41 Kurt Busch.
In her role, Carlson will work alongside the SHR strength and conditioning coach to complete physiological testing and work to improve pit crew athlete performance. Carlson, who experienced working with the pit crew teams at Hendrick Motorsports, has been studying the thermoregulatory and physiological challenges associated with competitive stock car racing.
