UNE’s ornithologist Noah Perlut presents on Antilean nighthawk at conference in Cuba
Noah Perlut, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Environmental Studies, along with Anthony Levesque of Amazona, an ornithological association on the French island of Guadeloupe, presented at the BirdsCaribbean 21st International Conference, which was held July 13-17 in Cuba.
The researchers presented a paper titled “Geolocator data reveals the migration route and wintering location of the Antilean nighthawk,” detailing findings of the first study to use miniature tracking devices to follow the annual movements of this species. Perlut and Levesque described the timing of the birds’ migration, identified an unknown stopover location on a coastal island of South America and mapped the Antilean nighthawk’s wintering location in Brazil.
