Vermont media reports on UNE’s dental externship program
The Bennington Banner and Manchester Journal, two Vermont newspapers, have published articles on the College of Dental Medicine’s student externship program. Battenkill Valley Health Center of Arlington, Vermont, was selected as a community-based externship site, where UNE student Nicholas Guy (’18) will begin his training on September 18, 2017.
"We are excited to be able to serve the people of Bennington County in a meaningful way, providing a service that so many are in need of," said Battenkill Valley Health Center’s Stephen Phillips, D.D.S., adjunct assistant professor in the College of Dental Medicine. "Partnering with UNE is just one way we can expand access to the services we provide."
CEO of Battenkill Valley Health Center Grace Gilbert-Davis added, "We see this as the first step of bringing many individuals into our community. We are looking for younger providers, both dental and medical, who want to buy a home here, raise their children here, and help grow Arlington."
The practice will continue to welcome three UNE dental students per year. Through the course of their externship, these students will learn how to provide care for diverse patient populations, attain real-world experience, witness firsthand the need for greater access to oral health care in Northern New England, and experience the importance of social responsibility and leadership as a dental professional.
