Article by UNE’s Adepitan Owosho recognized as best publication by prominent medical journal
Adepitan Owosho, B.Ch.D., FAAOM, assistant clinical professor in the College of Dental Medicine, has received the Millard Award by the Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology Journal (OOOO). He was honored at the American Academy of Oral Medicine's annual meeting.
Owosho received the award for having the best paper published in the oral medicine section of OOOO between July 2016 - June 2017. It recognizes his November 2016 publication on head and neck cancer, titled “Comparison of mean radiation dose and dosimetric distribution to tooth-bearing regions of the mandible associated with proton beam radiation therapy and intensity-modulated radiation therapy for ipsilateral head and neck tumor.” His co-authors for the study were SaeHee K. Yom, D.D.S., M.P.H.; Zhiqiang Han, B.S.; Kevin Sine, B.S., Nancy Y. Lee, M.D., Joseph M. Huryn, D.D.S., and Cherry L. Estilo, D.M.D.
The rigorous decision process for the Millard Award involved selection of the top three papers by a subcommittee. The entire Oral Medicine Section Editorial Board then voted on the winning article. Owosho’s publication will be recognized in a future issue of OOOO.
The OOOO is a preeminent journal in the fields of oral surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology, oral radiology or advanced general practice dentistry. It is the only major dental journal that provides a practical and complete overview of the medical and surgical techniques of dental practice in four areas. Topics covered include such current issues as dental implants, treatment of HIV-infected patients and evaluation and treatment of TMJ disorders.
