Ali Ahmida, UNE professor of political science, contributed a chapter on Libya to a new book, edited by Waïl S. Hassan, on the tradition of the Arab novel.

Ali Ahmida, Ph.D., professor of political science, wrote a chapter in a newly published book about the Arab novel. The Oxford Handbook of Arab Novelistic Traditions (Oxford University Press) examines the genesis of the Arabic novel in the second half of the 19th century and its development to the present day in all Arab-speaking nations and across six continents to which Arabs have emigrated.

The book is composed of three parts: Continuities, Developments and Diasporas. Ahmida contributed a chapter on Libya, titled “State, Society, Culture, and Postcolonialism,” in the Developments section. It covers a variety of topics, including the beginnings of the Libyan novel, major novelists, women’s contributions, and novels of exile.
