UNE’s Biddeford Campus Center presents pastels by artist Kent Shomaker
An exhibition of pastel paintings by local artist Kent Shomaker will be on display at the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus Center until July 2.
Shomaker is a retired physician and surgeon who practiced both in the military and as a civilian. He has studied art at the Heartwood School of Art, USM, Rivertree Arts and the Maine College of Art over the past several years. His teachers have included Antoinette Jackman, Carole Santora, Martha Miller and, mostly recently, Russel Whitten, with whom Shomaker has studied indoor still life and outdoor plein air painting.
Shomaker’s works have been shown at Rivertree Arts, the Pastel Painters of Maine annual shows and the Barn Gallery. He has participated in various regional outdoor festivals, including the Ocean Park Plein Air Festival, and he is a member of both the Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of Maine.
