UNE’s Biddeford Campus Center presents “Appreciating the Ordinary” by Yarmouth artist Polly Smith
An exhibition of artwork, titled “Appreciating the Ordinary,” by Yarmouth artist Polly Smith will be on display at the University of New England’s Biddeford Campus Center from December 9 to January 31. An artist’s reception will be held on December 12, from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The exhibition is the culmination of almost a decade of Smith’s work in watercolors. She paints “en plein air” as well as from photos.
Smith says that she seeks to capture everyday life in her paintings. “I want others to stop and appreciate the daily joys and beauty right around us, in a vase of dried flowers or in scenes out a kitchen window,” she stated.
Smith is a partner of the Stable Gallery in Damariscotta and paints regularly with the Community House Artists in Yarmouth. She is also a member of Maine Made Products. Her work has been selected into juried shows, including Yarmouth Art Festival (2013-19), Brunswick Sidewalk Art Show (2015), Portland Art Show (2014-15), South Portland’s Art in the Park (2018-19), Freeport’s Art Festival (2016-19), and Maine College of Art’s Create III & Create IV (2014-15).
Her work may be viewed at www.pollydsmith.com.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. UNE’s Campus Center is located at 11 Hills Beach Road, Biddeford, Maine. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact Diane Noble by email or phone (207-284-6394).
