Maine AHEC Network to provide COVID-19 related training to health care professionals
Jennifer Gunderman, M.P.H., director of the Maine Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Elizabeth Mann, RN, M.S.N., PHNA, clinical educator for Public Health Practice, and Micaela Maynard, Primary Care Training and Enhancement Project Assistant, recently completed Project ECHO immersion training.
Project ECHO uses videoconferencing to link specialists with isolated primary care clinicians to manage illnesses and promote best practices.
By completing the training, they will be able to coordinate and host Project ECHO sessions through the Center for Excellence in Public Health. Planning is now underway for sessions focused on providing COVID-19 related training to health care professionals and students as well as conducting assessments on the impact of the pandemic on minority and rural communities.
AHEC received funding through the federal government’s CARES ACT to develop and carry out the ECHO sessions.
