UNE’s Ali Ahmida featured on Californian radio segment on Libyan affairs
Ali Ahmida, Ph.D., professor in and founding chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of New England, recently gave an interview on KPFA Radio in Berkeley, California, to discuss the current status of Libyan relations.
Ahmida called into the show “Voices of the Middle East and North Africa” about the ongoing crisis in Libya and the contributing factors to the country’s civil war.
“The Libyan crisis is not [just] an internal civil war, like in other countries. It is also the product of regional and international intervention,” Ahmida said. “Everybody knows [that], but no one wants to really admit it has been a factor.”
Ahmida is an expert on North African and Libyan relations.
Late last year, Ahmida twice traveled overseas to offer his expertise — once as an external examiner to a doctoral dissertation at the University of Oxford in England and later in a panel discussion on Libyan affairs in Tunis, Tunisia.
Ahmida is additionally one of three scholars chosen by the United Nations to work on The Libya Socioeconomic Dialogue Project.
The project is designed to provide a platform for a broad and inclusive range of Libyan experts and stakeholders to jointly formulate a long-term future vision for the socioeconomic development of Libya and to devise policy options that would enable Libyan decision-makers to realize that vision.
