UNE's Pam Morgan honored by Maine Campus Compact for excellence in service-learning
Pam Morgan, Ph.D., professor of environmental studies at the University of New England, is a recipient of the Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence from the Maine Campus Compact (MCC).
The MCC is an organization of college and university presidents that looks to foster institutional change for civic engagement, ways to become partners with local communities, and to promote faculty and student engagement.
Morgan, a professor in the School of Marine and Environmental Programs at UNE, is one of only three across the state to receive the award, which recognizes Maine faculty who integrate community or public service into the curriculum and who work to institutionalize service-learning.
According to the MCC, award recipients have shown clear evidence of reflection, community benefit, reciprocity with community partners, and commitment to advocating for service-learning and/or community action on campus and beyond.
“I am grateful to have received this award because it highlights what faculty in the Environmental Studies program at UNE do so well,” she said. “We all engage students in community collaborations, in our courses, internships and research, which is a win-win for the students and for the communities.”
