Dr. Wake joined the University of New England in June 2023 as the Director of UNE North: Center for North Atlantic Studies. He brings 35 years of experience in directing an interdisciplinary research program focused on studying regional climate change, engaging partners in the science and solutions related to the changing climate, and developing sustainability education and research opportunities for students.
Dr. Wake previously worked at the University of New Hampshire as the Josephine A. Lamprey Professor of Climate and Sustainability at the UNH Sustainability Institute and research professor at UNH’s Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space. While at UNH, he led the effort to join the University of the Arctic consortium (UArctic) where he served as the UArctic representative for UNH — one of the universities with whom UNE co-hosted the UArctic Assembly in June 2022.
For more than two decades, Dr. Wake has taught undergraduate courses highly pertinent to the work of UNE North, including Ecology and Society in a Changing Arctic, Global Environmental Change, Climate Change and Health, and a Sustainability Capstone.
