Professor Kristen Columbus joined the College of Dental Medicine as a faculty member in May of 2022. Kristen has been in the dental field since 2002. She started out in the dental field as an on-the-job-trained dental assistant, and is now a registered dental hygienist and educator. Underscoring her instructional work, she has an extensive clinical dental hygiene background working in general and periodontal private practice settings. Kristen continues to deliver the highest standard of care compassionately and skillfully. Colleagues recognize her use of modern, evidence-based approaches to treatment and education that optimize results.
Kristen’s educator mindset is invaluable in roles where she instructs, inspires, and leads, sharing her unique journey and emphasizing personal growth. Kristen possesses excellent leadership skills and a willingness to step forward and make meaningful contributions that strengthen organizational structures, systems, and protocols.
Kristen attended the University of New England where she earned her Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2006. She furthered her education when she attained a Bachelors Degree in Dental Hygiene in 2014 at the University of Bridgeport. Kristen recently finished her Masters Degree in Dental Hygiene in May of 2022 through the same institution. Aside from being a registered dental hygienist, Kristen obtained her Local Anesthesia Permit in 2014 and Dental Assisting National Board Certification in 2020. She is also an active member in the American Dental Hygienists Association and American Dental Education Association. Kristen’s goal is to work towards an invention that will aid in the field of dentistry.
