Mary Katherine Spain, M.F.A., B.A.

Mary Katherine Spain has held various writing and tutoring positions at UNE since 2016: Online Writing Tutor, Writing Lab Instructor, and English Composition Instructor. Whether it is annotating a class assignment, revising a paper, or discussing structure, flow or thesis statements, Mary Katherine is committed to demystifying the art of the written word for both undergraduates and graduate students at UNE. She earned her M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the Stonecoast Writing Program at the University of Southern Maine and holds a B.A. in Writing and Psychology from Colorado State University. When she is not helping students at UNE become better writers, she can be found at her farm, Avalon Acres, in Hollis, teaching hula-hooping in and around the green spaces of Portland, or conducting sacred ceremony through her healing practice, Nine Pillars Healing.
