Steven F. Siconolfi, Ph.D., joined the University of New England College of Pharmacy as the interim dean in September 2023.
Siconolfi joined UNE after an illustrious career across several professions. He's worked as a college professor and YMCA fitness director, spent nine years as a NASA research scientist, and has over 20 years of experience as a higher education administrator— from associate dean of research to senior vice president and provost. He was also the deputy dean of Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Science at Wayne State in Michigan.
As a data-driven administrator, Siconolfi has developed several tools to help academic leaders make informed decisions, including a model to assess academic programs' operating and direct contribution margins, an academic fiscal forecast model that can compare different tuition models and rates, faculty workload analyses, and enrollment forecasting.
Siconolfi, who earned his doctorate in exercise physiology at Kent State University in Ohio, assisted in writing the first exercise prescriptions used on the International Space Station while working for NASA. The U.S. government awarded him two patents from his work with NASA and a Space Act Agreement that featured his computer-generated exercise prescriptions.
