Sylvain Jaume, Ph.D.

Sylvain Jaume, an academic and industry expert in computer science and data analytics, currently serves as the inaugural director of the recently established UNE School of Computer Science and Data Analytics.
Jaume is a computer science professor who has helped shape the emerging field of computing and data science education. He has extensive experience in higher education, having served as a dean of business and computer science at Bay State College, founding director of Saint Peter’s University’s data science programs and institute, and founding director of the Wentworth Institute of Technology’s interdisciplinary engineering program. He has served at the national level in developing curricula guidelines and also has extensive experience in assessment, accreditation, and international partnerships.
Jaume’s research interests are in artificial intelligence, computer vision, machine learning, and image-guided surgery. Jaume earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the Université Catholique de Louvain in Belgium, where he focused on topology simplification algorithms for the segmentation of medical scans. He was a research fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard Medical School and is also a partner in an artificial intelligence company with a focus on environmental sustainability. Building on his industry experience and passion for developing students, he is dedicated to preparing the next generation of global citizens and innovators.
