Why UNE
[UNE] was a great opportunity [for me]. I wanted to go somewhere where I'd be able to make new friends and connections with people. UNE is very inclusive. Even if you feel left out, if you just take that first step, you have many options to not only meet people, but take different courses [as well], and obviously you have the location. I didn't know what I wanted to do at first, but I knew there were options here that I could fit in with.
Beyond the Classroom
The [CAS internship] program was straightforward and very helpful. [Through the CAS Internship Office] you get to see [your] progress and it makes you realize there's a purpose behind what you're doing rather than just a job. I was trying to find an internship that would combine not only being able to be talkative, but also I’d get to show off my personality and some of the things I can do. I joined the loan servicing team at Kennebec Savings Bank for the summer as a banker assistant.
[Having the internship] helped me know what to focus on [for my career] — knowing if I want to work in this type of setting. I know I want to own a bank or run a bank one day, it’s something I look forward to.
