Welcome to the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNE COM). As an alumnus of this extraordinary institution, I am honored to serve in a leadership role in our supportive, caring community.
UNE COM was founded by a group of New England physicians who wanted to ensure their patients would continue to receive the best possible health care. Now in our fifth decade of educating osteopathic physicians to care for the people of Maine, New England, and the nation, UNE COM has proudly maintained this core mission while building an international reputation for innovation in medical education, teaching of anatomy and osteopathic manual medicine, and research in neuroscience and pain.
Our innovative medical curriculum incorporates expert faculty with small group, team-based, and peer teaching to integrate the biomedical and clinical sciences, and fuse the study of human anatomy with training in clinical skills, resulting in an educational program driven by competencies and entrustable professional activities. Working with our colleagues in UNE’s College of Dental Medicine, College of Health Professions, and College of Pharmacy, we have created opportunities for interprofessional education in simulation programs, peer teaching, student run clinics, and clerkship experiences providing healthcare to underserved populations. UNE COM partners with affiliate healthcare systems throughout New England and the Middle Atlantic States to establish strong, supportive clinical education programs during the third and fourth year, and for residency training.
UNE COM’s state of the art facilities for the study of human anatomy and osteopathic manipulative medicine, and the opening of Leonard Hall, an innovative learning space that allows us to present our medical curriculum in an interactive and team-based environment, all contribute to your transformation into a skilled and caring physician who puts the patient first.
Our picturesque and tranquil location on the Atlantic Ocean, unique curriculum, world-renowned faculty, and extraordinary staff, all make for a dynamic and engaging medical education, unlike one you will receive anywhere else.
