Current Projects

UNE North is actively participating in several research projects to build sustainable communities across the North Atlantic and Arctic regions. These projects, conducted in collaboration with UNE faculty, professional staff, students and local, regional, and global partners, are focused on developing innovative solutions to pressing health, environmental, and economic challenges. UNE North contributes to a more resilient and sustainable future for its communities by engaging in this vital research.

Past Projects

UNE North sustains ongoing research and projects by building on the success of our past initiatives. Our commitment to innovation and collaboration drives us to continually advance solutions that address evolving challenges in the North Atlantic and Arctic regions. Past projects and initiatives include the UNE President’s Forum discussion “Is it Ethical to Profit From Climate Change?” in which former UNE North director Barry Costa-Pierce participated on a panel.

In 2022, UNE hosted a portion of the annual University of the Arctic Assembly, where members gathered on our campus. The University of the Arctic is a 165-member network of universities, colleges, research institutes, and other organizations concerned with education and research in and about the Arctic and northern regions.

In the past, members from UNE’s community have engaged with 42˚N: New England Forum for Arctic Collaborations, a workshop that combines academic expertise in Arctic research across New England with researchers, stakeholders, and external partners concerned with environmental, economic, and social impacts.
